town_02Sep 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) There are many talented actors and film directors in Hollywood but finding a person who dons both hats with ease and passes with flying colors is somewhat difficult. However actor director Ben Affleck is among those rare stars and this is more evident after the release of his latest film ‘The Town’. This gritty heist flick adapted from a novel of Chuck Hogan named The Prince of Thieves is the sophomore directorial attempt by the actor. He tasted success earlier with the 2007 flick ‘Gone Baby Gone’. The new film is a fast paced crime thriller set in the backdrop of Boston.

The fast paced action sequences and chases are a part of the film similar to other action thrillers but Ben Affleck makes a balanced use of rich character drama. He plays an expert bank robber named Doug MacRay and in a bank robbery the gang takes the beautiful bank manager as the hostage. However, things go the wrong way when the character played by Ben Affleck develops a fondness for the hostage played by actress Rebecca Hall. The hardened robber even starts of thinking quitting his trade and settling with the woman he has been smitten by. However, the resistance comes from Jeremy Renner who displays traits of unbeatable cowboy machismo.

As one can expect there are the FBI sleuths breathing on the shoulders of the gang and John Hamm as the FBI head gives a decent performance in the film. Ben Affleck deserved the praise for managing to balance the suspense and credibility in the film. The co actors also match him well in the performance front.
