Sep 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ratings for the show, Tonight Show have plunged as compared to the same period last year. It ought to be mentioned that Jay Leno took over from Conan O’Brien as the host of the NBC show this year.

The show had very low ratings with an average audience of 3.8 million. That figure is about 12 percent below last year’s figures when O’Brien was the host of the show. Desirable adult ratings have also dropped for the show. The show’s ratings for desirable adults who are between the ages of 18 and 49 have also dropped.

But the show still enjoys better ratings and audience than The Late Show with David Letterman. The show leads Letterman’s show by 22 percent but the Late Show is enjoying a steady rating after it dropped to its all time lowest rating last year.

Tonight Show’s low rating is also being fueled by NBC’s feud with the former host, O’Brien.

Other similar shows like, Jimmy Kimmel Live! And Late Night with Jimmy Fallon have all enjoyed improved viewership this summer as well as The Late Show with Craig Fergusson which has enjoyed steady ratings over the period.

But the fact still remains that Leno is pulling in less viewers than O’Brien and it remains to be seen for how long NBC will allow that to continue.
