The movie stars Julie Andrews as Maria Von Trapp, Christopher Plummer as Capt. George Von Trapp, Richard Haydn as Max Detweiler, Eleanor Parker as Baroness Elsa Schraeder among others. The movie may be sourced from a real life story but the history is also said to be inaccurate in places. For example, the ending of the movie (which is indeed a happy one) shows the family migrate to the Swiss Alps by foo, in reality they had taken a train. These small changes however, does not change the fact that the family did go through some very hard and happy times.

The movie based on the story of a nun turned governess who goes on to teach the magic of music to her seven wards went on to win several Academy awards (5 in numbers) and was also nominated for some (5 in numbers). It was credited the best movie for the year 1965 and was highly acclaimed. The audience then and now loved to witness the ups-and-downs of the protagonist Maria Von Trapp with the backdrop of the Nazis. The movie was great at the box office, grossing an amount of $158 million and even breaking the record of Gone With The Wind “as the all time champion” The soundtrack of the movie was not far behind, having sold off around 11 million albums. There were controversies regarding the music in Germany, and some critics went on to give it negative reviews but this was not considered by the citizens of America yesterday.
