Rachael Ray Feb 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Today’s show began with Rachael’s Slow Cooked Recipe for the day. Her first tip is to brown the food before you add it to the cooker, so it will have the slow cooked benefit, but will have the caramelized flavor. For instance, in today’s recipe, she browned chicken before adding it to potatoes, onions, herbs, and such into the slow cooker with salt and pepper. The chicken will have the flavor, yet still be cooked slowly and be very tender. Her second slow cooker tip: add something fresh and crunchy on top. She used raisins, almonds, pimento, Spanish olives, and parsley. It looked mouthwatering.

Gretta Martihan was on the show to give her tips, and showed us how to make lip color stay on all day. She said to put the color on your lips, and then add blush the same color, cover in gloss and it will stay. Madelin, another tipster, said to take shimmery shadow, and put in inner corners of the eyes to make yourself look more awake. Gretta came back with a hair tip, for dry flaky hair. It is called Tea Tree and you add it to your shampoo. Madeline showed us how to wash our make-up brushes with baby shampoo, and then be sure to use conditioner. Gretta then showed us how to take lip balm, put it all over the eyelid, and then add eye shadow, and it will stay on all day.

A couple of viewers had some tips to give as well. One of those tips was how to keep ants out of the house. Take a piece of chalk and draw a thick line across window seals, doorways, and garage entries and the ants will not cross the line, because the chalk powder will stick to their feet. A few lunch ladies at Ben Franklin Middle School advised using peas instead of avocado to make guacamole. They said it was the same color and consistency, but was healthier, and tastier and that the kids loved it!

How to stay healthy all winter long was Liz’s advice section of the show. Liz is the Editor in Chief of Prevention Magazine. Her first tip was how to not catch a cold. One tip: in restaurants, ketchup bottles, salt shakers, etc, carry germs, cover them with a napkin. The next tip, if you absorb a lot of caffeine, you will have to take a zinc supplement, because caffeine depletes it. Another tip, airline seats have an extreme amount of germs, due to the fact that the air is stale, and there are many people using them. Wash hands often, use sanitizers and such.

Rocco showed us a few kitchen tips. First of all, when you are cooking, and your food begins to burn or scorch, do NOT stir. Pour out the unburned part, and throw out the part stuck to the pan. Over baked fish or meat, let it flake apart, use mayonnaise, pesto, etc. mix it together, and make a salad with it.

Rachael is asking the viewers at home to send their tips in to RachaelRay.com. You could win a set of Rachael Ray pots and pans!

Ashley came next with fashion tips for the Plus Size person. First of all, be a realist about what fits you, she says, open up the neckline, no matter what size you are. Not too low, not too high, but open. Be confident in wearing what fits. For her second tip, she brought out Emily, who looked beautiful in a sequin top, to show how to choose clothes that draw the eye to areas that you want people to notice and away from those areas that you do not want the focus to be on. Emily had “skinny jeans” and a small jacket along with the top. Her boyfriend was in the audience, and when Rachael asked him how he thought Emily looked, he came from the audience, and knelt down, and proposed!

Rachael’s “What’s for Dinner” segment featured her “Chicken and Fennel” from her “30 minute meals” and can be found at RachaelRay.com.
