‘The Queen’ leads EFA nominations

The film, directed by Stephen Frears, will compete for the best picture, best director, best actress and best screenwriter.

Nominations, announced on Nov 3 at the Seville Film Festival, also include Kevin Macdonald’s “The Last King of Scotland,” with five nominations.

Nominees for best European Film 2007, apart from the two Oscar winning movies, include Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Fatih Akin’s The Edge Of Heaven, Olivier Dahan’s La Vie En Rose and Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud’s Persepolis.

France’s Michel Piccoli, nominated for his leading role in Manoel de Oliveira’s “Belle toujours,” contends for actor trophy with James McAvoy (”The Last King of Scotland”), Miki Manojlovic (”Irina Palm”), Elio Germano (”My Brother Is an Only Child”), Sasson Gabai (”The Band’s Visit”) and Ben Whishaw (”Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”).

Apart from Helen Mirren (”The Queen”), candidates for best actress are Marion Cotillard (”La Vie en rose”), Marianne Faithfull (”Irina Palm”), Carice Van Houten (”Black Book”), Anamaria Marinca (”4 Months”) and Ksenia Rappoport (”The Unknown”).

The 1,800 members of the European Film Academy will vote on the winners, who will be announced Dec 1 in Berlin. (ANI)
