pregnency-pactJan 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “The Pregnancy Pact” was premiered by Lifetime Network on Saturday at 9.00 p.m. ET. The movie is apparently inspired by a real life story. It shows a bunch of high school teenagers willing to experience pregnancy. “Time Magazine” reported that the rise in numbers of high school teenagers getting pregnant was due to a “pregnancy pact” where unmarried teenagers wanted to become mothers.

Camryn Manheim starring as the school nurse Kim Daly persuades the school to provide contraception for its students. She thinks if teenagers use condom there would be less chance of them getting pregnant. She says one out of three teenagers get pregnant even before they are twenty. She adds, “One in six girls in the U.S. become teen mothers.”

Some criticizes this movie saying how can Lifetime Network think of sending a social message through the movie when it portrays girls consuming alcohol and smoking. Moreover why does it preach the use of condom while the girls truly wants to get pregnant. According to some, the movie is only showing one side of the story. It reveals various ways in which a girl can use protection. However, only girls are not involved in the birth of a child. The movie completely denies a man’s role in causing pregnancy. It never shows what are the kinds of protection that they should use in order to prevent pregnancy.

Some say, Lifetime Network could have presented a reality series depicting what actually happens to teenagers who become mothers, the challenges and the traumas that they need to go through. The movie is “inspired” by a true story, however, it does not speak about the realities of getting pregnant. It is rather a fairy tale like portrayal of teenagers wanting to experience pregnant.
