Dec. 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Matt Damon’s new television project, which is also his first one, premiered in the History Channel on Dec. 13. It goes by the name of “The People Speak”. The documentary has been produced by Josh Brolin along with Matt Damon himself and the other stars who have participated in the show are Bob Dylan, Marisa Tomei, Kerry Washington, Morgan Freeman, Pink, Viggo Mortenson and Bruce Springsteen. The documentary lasts for 90 minutes and comprises the celebrities reading out from letters, diaries and speeches from the repertoire of people who have brought about radical changes in the American social scenario.
The great thing about this documentary is that, it does not feature the speeches and journals of politicians or presidents, rather these are the some of the greatest activists, authors and reformers who have sought to bring about a change in the society. The documentary features letters of the likes of Martin Luther King, Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglas among others. The documentary is a moving tribute to those great men and women, their thoughts and beliefs brought alive in the narration of the present day actors.
Matt Damon mentioned in the premiere for “The People Speak” that the documentary was really close to his heart, the idea for which he got from the books “Voices Of The People’s History Of The United States” and ‘A People’s History Of The United States.” He had read the books as a boy of about ten years of age. The music in the documentary, composed by Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Bob Dylan and others, acts as another character, adding to the depth and matter.
