Nov 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Today’s show focused on Oprah’s favorite recipes of all times. Even after the delicious Thanksgiving dinner I had yesterday, and the leftovers today, this show left me starving! All of the recipes are available on Oprah.com.
The first two recipes of the show were both from “Mar-a-Lago”, “Donald Trump”’s private club in Palm Beach. The first, which was named the most popular recipe ever on Oprah, was a turkey delicious burger recipe. “It was and still is the best turkey burger I’ve ever had in my entire life,” was Oprah’s exclamation. Today’s second dish was a key lime pie, also from “Mar-a-Lago”. Both of the first two recipes were courtesy of “Jeff O’neal”, the executive chef at the resort. Samples of this pie were given to the audience after the directions were demonstrated for them.
Oprah then showed us an older clip from her show, with “Tom Cruise” sharing his Spaghetti Carbonara. He gave the credit for it to His good friend “Tommy Lee”. His recipe was as follows:
for frying in pan, 1/2 inch of olive oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
12 pieces of Italian Bacon, sliced thick
4 eggs
2 packs of spaghetti
2 cups of Parmesan Cheese, grated
He then took the garlic and onions, and fried them in the olive oil. Adding the bacon and letting it all cook together, as the spaghetti noodles cooked. Once the noodle were cooked and drained, he added the 4 eggs to the noodles and cooked until the eggs were done. Last, he scooped the onion/garlic/bacon mixture into the eggs and noodles, and added two cups of Parmesan. It looked delicious!
Next came “Tim McGraw” and “Faith Hill”, to share with us Tim’s Grandma’s chicken and dumplings. Tim jokingly shared with us that this is how he got Faith, the secret to their courtship. He boiled a chicken until done, and pulled the meat off the bones. He then returned the chicken to the pot, along with the broth. In a bowl, he mixed 3 tablespoons of shortening, and two cups of all purpose flour. He mixed those together with pastry cutter, and added 1/2 cup of buttermilk. Next he sprinkled flour onto a cutting board, and rolled the dough out flat. Finally he added pieces of the dough to the simmering chicken and broth mixture, and let them boil until tender. He suggests letting the broth thicken until its creamy for a couple of hours. Tim winked at the camera and added “This worked for me guys…so you might wanna try this at home!” It was a cute part of the segment.
A clip of “Paula Dean” was then shown, in an older “Oprah Winfrey Show” episode. It was hilarious. Poor Paula was demonstrating how to make her Grandmother’s sour cream pound cake. After adding the first few ingredients, she asked how the audience was enjoying the samples that they had been eating. As she was looking at the audience, she laughed,”My kids aren’t even eating it.”. The camera pans to her boys, sitting in the audience, and one of them laughs,” I am too nervous to eat, my mom is on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. Right at that precise moment, Paula dropped the glass bowl holding the vanilla flavoring into the mixer, and splatters all over herself and Oprah. Everyone laughed hysterically (so did I when watching) and they decided not to finish the recipe. Oprah then informed us that Paula was back, via Skype, and this time she got the whole recipe finished! As I said before, all of the recipes which I don’t print here are available at Oprah.com.
Rachel Ray, who had just filmed her 500th Episode, came next, on Skype, and she made a fake out dip alongside Oprah who was making it in the studio. It was fun watching them work side by side, and really cute when, as Oprah got her recipe correct, she danced a little jig.
They also showed “Funky Spaghetti” from a “Simple Meals at Home” segment that “The Oprah Winfrey Show” had aired before. Art Smith shared his “Electric Lemonade” (which, by the way, Oprah says you don’t have to add the alcohol, “but if you do…you’ll be happy……”), and The segment ended with “Frozen Hot Chocolate” Oprah stated that everyone should add this to their Bucket List to be sure to try it before dying. We were taken to Serendipity, a restaurant which serves the delicious concoction, which was beautifully served in a sundae dish, with whip cream and chocolate shavings. It made my mouth water, but then, of course, I am after all a confessed chocoholic, with no desire to recover!
