‘The Lion King’ star Shannon Tavarez dies

Los Angeles, Nov 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Shannon Tavarez has lost her long battle with acute myeloid leukemia. She was 11 years old and her fight with the disease got the attention of celebrities like Alicia Keys and Rihanna. Shannon who was a celebrity herself died after she failed to find a donor in her bone marrow match search. Doctor needed a matching bone marrow to replace the diseased one of Shannon but before some could be available, she lost the battle.

It must however be mentioned that the doctors did their best to make the 11-year-old stay alive longer. She received an umbilical cord transplant in August to help prolong her life. Shannon was a singer on Broadway and she recently played Young Nala in “The Lion King” on Broadway.

Her search for a bone marrow match hit the peak when Alicia Keys and Rihanna joined in the campaign to get a bone marrow for little Shannon. Shannon started her career on Broadway in September 2009 but had to quit in April this year when she was diagnosed with cancer.
