The movie is an autobiography based on the life of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. This 2005 movie has Joaquin Phoenix playing the part of Johnny Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash. The movie is directed by James Mangold and is considered as one of the best biographies on reel.
The movie earned an Oscar nomination for both its lead actors. Joaquin Phoenix was nominated in the category, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Reese Witherspoon won a very deserving Oscar in the actresses’ category. Other nominations were for editing, costume and sound mixing.
June Carter Cash was a multifaceted personality. She was a singer, author, actress, songwriter and comedienne, and played a number of instruments. She was the second wife of Johnny Cash. She had acted in a number of movies like “The Apostle”, “The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James”, “Gunsmoke” etc. She has had a great solo career, as well as made a team with her husband. In 1999, she won a Grammy for her solo album, “Press On”. “Wildwood Flower” was her last album, which was released in 2003, after she had passed away. The album won her two more Grammy awards. She wrote a memoir, “From The Heart”. An autobiography of June Carter Cash was published in 1979.
On May 15, 2003, June Carter Cash died in a car crash, leaving behind Johnny Cash in fragile health conditions. She still lives on in her daughter, Rosanne Cash and her songs. Rosanne was nominated for a Grammy for “Black Cadillac” and says it was brought on by the loss of her parents.

My goodness! June Carter died of heart failure in May 2003, *NOT* in a car crash. And Rosanne Cash is Johnny Cash’s daughter, not June’s. Who edits this stuff anyway?

Oh my god! June didn’t die from a car crash! Man check your info! And Rosanne is Johnny and his first wife Vivian Liberto’s daughter…
