New York, Jan 26 (ANI): The acclaimed British drama ‘The King’s Speech’ has been named the Oscar frontrunner with 12 nominations.
The nominations for the 83rd annual Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday.
‘The Social Network’ and ‘The King’s Speech’ have been nominated for Best Picture, reports the New York Daily News.
Competing with ‘Social Network’ and ‘King’s Speech’ for the top Oscar on Feb. 27 will be ‘The Fighter,’ ‘Black Swan,’ ‘Inception,’ ‘The Kids Are All Right,’ ‘127 Hours,’ ‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘True Grit,’ and ‘Winter’s Bone.’
‘King’s Speech’ goes into the last leg of the race with Colin Firth a clear favourite for Best Actor. His competition includes James Franco — also a host of the show this year — for ‘127 Hours,’ Jesse Eisenberg for “The Social Network,” Javier Bardem for “Biutiful” and Jeff Bridges — last year’s Best Actor winner (”Crazy Heart”) — for “True Grit.”
‘The Kids Are All Right’ goes into the Best Actress race with Annette Bening the odds-on favorite, competing against Natalie Portman (’Black Swan’), Nicole Kidman (’Rabbit Hole’), Michelle Williams (’Blue Valentine’) and newcomer Jennifer Lawrence (’Winter’s Bone’).
Best Supporting Actor nominees are Christian Bale (’The Fighter’), John Hawkes (’Winter’s Bone’), Geoffrey Rush (’The King’s Speech’), Mark Ruffalo (’The Kids Are All Right’) and Jeremy Renner (’The Town’).
The Best Supporting Actress nominees are Melissa Leo (’The Fighter’), Amy Adams (’The Fighter’), Helena Bonham Carter (’The King’s Speech’), Australian Jackie Weaver (’Animal Kingdom’) and 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld for ‘True Grit,’ her film debut. (ANI)
