“The Karate Kid” Gets A Remake

untitled6Nov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘The Karate Kid’, is the movie, through which Ralph Machchio gained his fame. Now, its the turn for the ‘Hancock’ starer Will Smith to recreate the magic yet again. Reportedly, Will Smith, will be doing a remake of the famous movie, ‘The karate kid’ which released in the 1980s. The remake will be called, ‘Kung-Fu Kid’ and has Smith’s son Jaden Smith working along with Jackie Chan. Jackie will be playing the character of Jaden’s mentor-’Mr Miyagi’ but with a new name.

The 1984 movie, ‘The Karate-Kid’, was directed by John G. Avildsen and was written by Robert Mark Kamen. The other actors included Pat Morita ans Elisabeth Shue. The movie was a huge success following in the footsteps of ‘Rocky’. The movie even had critical acclaim and the actor, Morita won an Academy Award in the Category of Best Supporting Actor.

Now, the movie ‘The Kung-Fu Kid’, that is to release on the 11th June, 2010, has been written by Michael Soccio and directed by Harald Zwart. The plot is set in Beijing, China and is inspired by the original movie itself. Jaden will be playing the character of Dre, who moves to the capital of China alongside his mother, and then gets in to a situation where he is bullied. He then goes on to take martial art classes from Jackie Chan’s character of Mr Han. Both the movies span the genre of action/drama. The original, got Morita nominated for the Golden Globe Awards, and won the Best Family Motion Picture. Elisabeth Shue also won the best Young Supporting Actress award. Alongside, William Zabka was nominated for the Best Young Supporting Actor. The movie also got listed at no. 98 in the 100 most inspiring movies. Now it is to be seen whether the reincarnation of the cult flick happens to be a box office wonder or not.
