The International Federation of Actors Calls For An International Boycott Of “The Hobbit”

Sep 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit” is a planned two part film which is yet to be produced. The executive producer and the co-writer of the upcoming project is the director of “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy, Peter Jackson. However, a reputed media source reported that the filming of the movie has faced lot of controversies and presently an Australian-based union has called for an international boycott of the much delayed production of “The Hobbit” movie in New Zealand.
However, it is expected that the actors of the movie “The Hobbit”, Sir Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Andy Serkis are likely get affected by the boycott. On the other hand Peter Jackson has answered the union by saying that he would either shift the base of the movie from New Zealand to Eastern Europe or he would simply shut down the project. The reputed media sources reported that the makers of “The Hobbit” has refused to enter into a union negotiated agreement and it advised members not to accept work on the planned two-film prequel of “The Lord Of The Rings” which was supposed to be filmed in New Zealand.
Peter Jackson, on the other hand rejected all the claims saying that the actors of the movie will not be paid under the union contracts. The Australian federation are of the opinion that the actors taking part in “The Hobbit” has no guarantees of minimum wages. The statement released by the International Federation of Actors where it was maintained that the performers from all around the world should come and support their colleagues in New Zealand and seek union contract for all the performers. Peter Jackson said in return to the statement that he feels angered at how a “tiny minority” is endangering their project.
