Nicolas Chartier Los Angeles, Mar 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has barred the producer of “The Hurt Locker” Nicolas Chartier from making an appearance at the upcoming Academy awards. They were forced to take this drastic step, because apparently Nicolas Chartier send out a group email to many of the Academy members, and asked them to choose ‘The Hurt Locker’ as the best picture over the other top-notch nominees like Avatar and Inglourious Basterds.

“Nicolas Chartier has been denied attendance at the 82nd Academy Awards as a penalty for violating Academy campaigning standards. Chartier had recently disseminated an email to certain Academy voters and other film industry figures in which he solicited votes for his own picture and disparaged one of the other contending films,” the Academy said in a statement on Tuesday.

This is indeed a landmark step on the Academy’s part to bar Nicolas from the Award ceremony. Some analysts and critics are of the opinion that the punishment is too light, and instead the film should have had been made ineligible for the Oscars. Later The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that the disgraced producer Nicolas can’t come to the upcoming award ceremony as any other nominee’s guest also. This step effectively marked the end of the only way Nicolas could have made an appearance at the prestigious Award ceremony. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also confirmed that they have taken the drastic step of withdrawing a nominee’s invitation, for the first time ever in the history of the awards.
