‘The Help’ is on top of the US Box Office
September 6th, 2011 - 7:27 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Sept 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the third straight weekend, “The Help” topped the US Box Office charts. The movie ended the weekend at the US cinemas grossing $19 million. Summer movies haven’t performed that well this season despite the fact that several blockbuster movies have been released this year.
On the second weekend of its release, The Help moved to the top of the charts and it has stayed there since. “The Debt” was the second highest grossing movie over the weekend. The movie grossed $12.6 million in revenue from ticket sales in North America.
The performance of The Help has shocked several analysts. Brandon Gray, president of Box Office Mojo, in an interview explained that the 3D concept is not enticing moviegoers to the theaters.
He stated that, “Given how much 3-D was out there, it should have made more money. 3-D has been a gimmick in the past, and there’s no evidence to suggest it’s much more than a gimmick now.”
Though the year has been a challenging one for movie makers in Hollywood, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” beat the odds to become the highest grossing movie for the year. The movie has managed $1.3 billion since it was released worldwide.
