“The Goonies” To Return As Broadway Musical?

hOct 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Richard Donner directed American adventure comedy movie “The Goonies” may be headed to Broadway stage. The fans of the movie will have a reason to rejoice as the musical adoption of the movie is in work. The director of the movie, Richard Donner reportedly announced that he is in talk with Broadway to bring the popular movie in a new musical.

Richard Donner in one of his interviews to a reputed media source reportedly said that there is a great writer and producer named Tim Long has done musicals on “The Simpsons”, which he considers as classics. However, the director said that Tim Long has delivered a treatment of the movie “The Goonies” as a musical and the director felt that the whole idea was great. Matthew Morrison, the “Glee” star previously expressed his wish to adopt “The Goonies” for the stage someday where he would play the role of older brother. However, it seems that the fans of the movie will surely enjoy the film as a musical on Broadway.

The director of “The Goonies” reportedly said that he had it in his mind to make a musical remake of the comedy/adventure flick. However, he admitted that he tried but the whole team felt that if they chalked out a remake of the movie then it would eventually dampen the essence of the original. The director said that Steven Spielberg then told something to him and that opened his eyes. Richard Donner said that there can never be any sequel of “The Goonies” as he feels for that he will have to find new Goonies who would fit into the skin of the former characters. However, the director later said that the new musical is in the stages of an “outline”.
