‘The Goonies’ To Be Staged As A Broadway Musical

The Goonies October 30, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Richard Donner, the director of the popular 1985 flick ‘The Goonies’ has revealed that the immensely well liked movie might be moving to Broadway soon. He was speaking on the 25th anniversary of the event and said that the movie is likely to be made into a musical. The DVD and Blu Ray release of the classic were also scheduled for the occasion.

Tim Long, a writer and producer of repute has been engaged to do the musical version. He has just had a portion of ‘The Goonies’ turned into a musical and the treatment is too great for words, gushed Donner. Long also does the musicals of ‘The Simpsons’ which are considered to be a classic, he added further.

The classic had been originally written by Steven Spielberg. The Broadway veterans Martha Plimpton and Josh Brolin have already starred in it apart from Sean Astin and Corey Feldman. They had all played members of a group of a teenagers intent on treasure hunting.

And if the musical finally gets to be done there are many who would be happy. Matthew Morrison, the star of ‘Glee’ had done his very first Broadway hit, ‘Hairspray’ back in 2002. He had been a leading star there. He had also revealed his intentions of helping out with the stage adaption of ‘The Goonies’ almost eight years earlier. Morrison had expressed an wish to play the elder brother despite his being the leading actor in ‘Hairspray’ at that time. Well, maybe his wish will come true at last.
