“The Golden Girls” Reborn In Span

gielJuly 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Classic American sitcom “The Golden Girls” is all set to rule the hearts of Spanish audiences after a leading media source reported that the highly acclaimed television series is going to be remade in Spanish. It has been revealed that one of most well-regarded Spanish producer Jose Luis Moreno and Latin World Entertainment which is based in Miami along with Disney Media Networks would be producing the Spanish version of “The Golden Girls” which would be titled “Las Chicas de Oro.”

Although the remake of the NBC sitcom holds testimony to the widespread popularity that the show enjoyed among its viewers, it is not the first instance when “The Golden Girls” would be made in some other language. Spain joins the bandwagon of countries such as Greece, United Kingdom, Russia, Latin America as well as Turkey, all of which has a version of their own. At the same time, it has also come to light that some of the biggest names of the Spanish entertainment industry would be edging the pivotal characters in the sitcom which focuses on the lives of four older women sharing a house in Miami. The names that have been cited to play the four female leads includes Carmen Maura, Alicia Hermida, Concha Velasco and Lola Herrera while tentative premiere date of the series is likely to be sometime in the month of September.

The sitcom “The Golden Girls” aired on NBC for the very first time way back in September 14, 1985. The show became an instant hit and won wide accolades including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series twice.
