The Blues Brothers Is A “Catholic Classic,” Says Vatican

Blues BrothersJune 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “The Blue Brothers,” the famous 1980 comedy flick starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, has received appreciation from one of the most unlikely quarters. “L’Osservatore Romano,”which is known as the official newspaper of the Vatican has hailed the John Landis directed movie as a ‘Catholic classic.’ The praise showered on the comedy film does not just end here as Vatican’s mouthpiece also goes on to say that “The Blues Brothers” is a must watch for every Catholic.

The acclaim for the 1980 flick from Vatican is all the more special as it comes on the 30th anniversary of the cult movie. The Vatican newspaper describes “The Blues Brothers” as an ‘incredibly shrewd’ work which is extremely ‘rich with ideas.’ At the same time, the spectacular work of John Belushi is also recognized which is said to be iconic even after thirty years since the movie had hit theaters. The 1980 movie which is based on a skit of “Saturday Night Live” focuses on the characters of Jake and Elwood Blues who embark on a rather interesting journey with the aim of raising money to help a church-run orphanage in which they had grown up. While accomplishing their goal, they undertake a road trip that includes entertaining events such as chasing cars, confrontation with the cops, concerts, Neo-Nazi groups among others.

Meanwhile, with the honor bestowed on “The Blue Brothers,” the movie joins the list of the flicks that have been endorsed by the Vatican which includes “Jesus of Nazareth,” “The Passion Of Christ,” “Joan of Arc,” “The Ten Commandments,” and “It’s A Wonderful Life.”
