Aug 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 2010 has turned out to be a mixed year for Hollywood as some of the expected hits have turned out to be duds at the box office while some other films have done unexpectedly good business. ‘Toy Story 3′ is among the best animated flicks of recent times and the film’s success has proved that with a good storyline and flawless execution one can make adults hooked to a film meant for the kids. The film is among the top grosser of this year. As per the expectation of the critics the Robert Downey Junior Starrer ‘Iron Man 2′ has hit the jackpot as well. The film replete with mind blowing CGI but not so strong storyline has done good business at the domestic and international box office this year.
The dark horse of the year is the Christopher Nolan directed ‘Inception’ which has given actor Leonardo Di Caprio the role an actor can dream for. The movie is sure to bag many awards in 2010 and in the next year. Among the comedies two films stand out, the ‘Dinner for Schmucks’ and the Russell Brand starrer ‘Get Him To The Greek’. Both were made on moderate budge but the viewers liked them a lot.
Johnny Depp has got accolades for his mad hatter act in the ‘Alice in Wonderland 3D’ made under the direction of his close friend Tim Burton. Though some people have described the film to be brooding and serious, it has done better business than many other films of the year. A serious disappointment is the Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise starrer ‘Knight and Day’. The film, despite having the hunky actor and some breathtaking action sequences turned out to be a damp squib.
