01256New York, June 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) My Network TV aired “The Basketball Diaries” on Thursday which happens to be an on screen adaptation of Jim Carroll’s novel by the same name.

The movie was aired as a prime time offering on the channel and is said to be one of the very best of Scott Kalvert films. “The Basket Ball Diaries” witness Leonardo Dicaprio in one of the very best roles in his acting career as he essays the role of the protagonist Jim Carroll in the movie.

“The Basketball Diaries” is a fine narration of high school basketball star Jim Carroll who witnesses a free fall into the world of drug induced hustler life. In due course of his game play and drug addiction, the basketball court itself becomes a metaphor of his own life.

His aim to become a great basketball star is stunted by an array of events in his life as he witness his close friend standing on the verge of death due to leukemia. To make matters worse in his life, there is coach “Swifty”, teenage sex and heroin. A sudden frenzy takes him over and Jim Carroll soon finds himself in the streets of New York.

It is “Reggie” (Ernie Hudson) an old time pal who had played alongside him helps Jim Carroll recover from his state and figure out the way to get back on track. The film set against the backdrop of New York is considered to be one of the very best movies that deals with adolescence and associated problems.

The novel itself is an instance of adolescence literature which have inspired many contemporary authors as well as filmmakers.
