Arlington, Nov 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The American Century Theatre had presented ‘One Night with Fanny Brice’ in Arlington. It was a one-woman show and cabaret artist Esther Covington was portraying the character of singer and comedian Fanny Brice. It may be recalled that in the past Barbra Streisand in ‘Funny Girl’ has enacted this inspiring role to perfection.

Fanny Brice was well known for her hits like “My Man,” “Second-Hand Rose,” and “You Made Me Love You.” Apart from being a longtime Ziegfeld Follies star, she was also a comedian par excellence. And she was also the original Funny Girl star. She had also created the character of Baby Snooks. So it seems like cabaret artist Esther Covington was going to have a hard time as she was filling in the shoes of such legendary artists. However she is herself a great comedian and a naturally gifted one at that. Prior to this role, she had also starred in “Lost in Yonkers” as Bella, which was staged at the Theatre J in Washington DC.

The show was held in the Rosslyn Spectrum in Arlington.

“The chances are that you have no idea what Fanny Brice was like. She was not anything like Barbra Streisand,” according to TACT artistic director Jack Marshall.
