The 2009 Celebrity Softball Game, which is also known as the Taco Bell All Star Legends Softball Game was a star studded event this year too, as it has been every year. This year, it was held over the weekend, on Sunday, July 12. This annual game event brings together former Major League Baseball (MLB) stars and celebrities for a friendly encounter on the field. The game is always scheduled one day prior to the Home Run Derby.

This year’s event was played out at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. A horde of high profile names like Nelly, Andy Richter, Ashanti, Billy Bob Thornton, Chingy, Ginuwine featured in the list of those who attended the event. Among the Major League Baseball legends, former outfielder Dave Winfield, Ozzie Smith (the best shortstop ever) and pitcher Rich “Goose” Gossage were among those who graced the occasion. Three time All American and former Texas A and M softball player Megan Gibson was also a part of Sunday’s event.

The star for 209 Celebrity Softball Game was undoubtedly rapper Nelly. He dominated the field throughout the game and hit two- run homer. His histrionic in the game also shone through when he dived in for a successful catch in the outfield. Dave Winfield urged fans to step in for him to run the bases so that the injury to his knee does not flare up.

The game had started in 2001 in Seattle and every year is played at the same venue where the All Stars game is scheduled for that particular year.
