Sep 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Lifetime network aired the much awaited TV movie named ‘The 19th Wife’ last night and it was watched by the viewers who were left impressed with the performance of the cast. The film revolves around the controversial issue of polygamy and tells the story of Jordan who gets excommunicated by the Mormon Church. The plot revolves round his attempts to aid his mother who has been accused of murdering her husband. The film has been adapted from a novel written by David Ebershoff. It shows the complexity of human relationships in a changing world.
However, the author is not happy with the film adaptation of his novel. He is miffed because the producers of the movie has made some significant changes to the plot. The big difference between the novel and the film is that in former Jordan is gay while the film portrays him as a heterosexual man. The author has not taken it nicely and he is also annoyed that owing to this change in the orientation of Jordan’s character, other characters like Jordan’s boyfriend and his two pets have also been eliminated from the film.
The author said in an interview that he was informed before the filming about this change in Jordan’s character. He said that he is not at all happy with the movie adaptation and hopes that more people reads the novel. Lifetime spokespersons did not say what was the exact reason behind this change. This is not the first time that TV networks excluded the same sex love theme from a source. The movies made for TV are often subjected to such changes.
