Los Angeles, June 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Thandie Newton has gone public with her affair with movie director John Duigan. During an interview with InStyle magazine, Newton said she was only 16 years when she started having affair with the director who is 23 years older than her. The relationship between the two ended six years later and Newton has since had a therapy.

According to Newton, Duigan took advantage of her vulnerability because of her age. She explained that she decided to come out with the story because she wanted other teenagers to know that they have the power to always say “No.” In her own case, Newton explained that she got involved with Duigan when she travelled to Australia to audition for a role in his film “Flirting.”

She narrated that, “I was a very shy, very sweet girl. I wasn’t in control of the situation. Would I have liked things to be different? Sure. But I can now value myself more for the way I got through it. I don’t see myself as a victim.”

Newton is a BAFTA winning actress and starred in several top movies including “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Mission: Impossible II” and “Rock ‘n Rolla.” She is currently married to filmmaker Ol Parker and the couple has two daughters- 11-year-old Ripley and 7-year-old Nico- together.
