August 12, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Jackie Evancho, the 10 year old girl impressed all and sundry with her act on ‘America’s Got Talent’. The show had specifically arranged to have 12 of the best auditions on the YouTube video and she definitely wowed the audience by her act.

She was the only one to have made it on basis of the fans and she was undoubtedly the best of the lot. The other 11 were chosen by the judges themselves.

As an eight year old, Jackie had been to see the ‘Phantom of The Opera’ with her family and her interest in opera singing grew soon afterwards.

When Jackie entered the stagelooking cute in a pink dress with her hair carefully combed, without a strand out of place, the audience had no inkling of what was to come. But the show may have managed to uncover its rarest talent. Little Jackie simply stole the show with her perfect rendition of opera songs.

The Puccini Aria that she belted out was pitch perfect and as polished as could be. The judge Piers Morgan, told her later on that she had the unwavering confidence that was hard to spot even in one, three times her age.

The entire public rose as one to give her a standing ovation after she sang ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ which reminded one of Charlotte Church, the former child star.

Sharon Osbourne seemed shocked at the mature voice coming out of a tiny child’s body and said so. Piers Morgan was also surprised beyond measure and said that it was an astonishing show on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Jackie is now past the semi finals and will go on perform at Las Vegas. She herself is thrilled too and stated that it is simply amazing that America had selected her and she could follow her dreams now.
