clipboard0114Feb 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Saturday, 6 February saw the new HBO movie, Temple Grandin being premiered on the HBO network. The cast is said to be perfectly chosen and given the fact that the movie is based on a real person, it tends to hold special attraction for the audience.

The movie was inspired by the 62-year-old Temple Grandin herself, who suffers from a high-functioning autism. Autism Spectrum Disorders is said to be a “spectrum of psychological conditions” where the person suffers from decreased interests and also a repetitive behavior. A person with HFA is slightly more functional than the other autistic patients. Temple Grandin, born in Boston, suffers from HFA but is today known for what she has done from the community of autistic people and also as a Doctor of Animal Science at the Colorado State University. Temple Grandin has been famous for her ‘work in autism advocacy’. However, the most celebrated is the ‘hug machine’ that she invented for people who are hypersensitive like her.

The movie stars Claire Danes who plays the character of Temple Grandin. The movie follows a young Temple Grandin in that time and age where autism as a whole was not common and not very well understood. The movie follows the lady as a school going girl, to her achieving the Master of Science. What forms the main core of the movie, is the protagonist’s struggles with her surrounding and with life itself.

The movie was very-well received, with thousand of Americans tuning to HBO. The reviews seem to be good for the overall movie, but specially for Claire Danes, its two thumbs up.
