dora-the-explorer Caitlin Sanchez the 14-year-old girl who gave the voice to the character “Dora” in the children cartoon series “Dora the Explorer” has filed a suit against Nickelodeon for “cheating” her. Sanchez is demanding unspecified amount in damages from the network.

The teenager and her family claimed in the suit that the network failed to pay Sanchez the fees she was due for the rerun of the shows she gave her voice to. She is also claiming compensation for the numerous DVDs and other Dora products that the network has sold over the years.

Nickelodeon however says the claims by Sanchez are baseless, arguing that the teenager’s contract was extensively negotiated before they were signed. The spokesman for the network claim that Sanchez was “well compensated” for the work she did.

The cartoon has become a cultural force and an icon. It is in its tenth year and Sanchez replaced Kathleen Herles who originally gave the voice to Dora in 2007.

The cartoon series has generated more than $11 billion in total revenue since it was started and Sanchez was paid $5,115 per episode that she featured in.

The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday.
