yul22TCM dedicated a day to the Yul Brynner showcasing his works on the silver screen on Wednesday. It started with Solomon And Sheba, followed by The Journey, Taras Bulba, Kings Of The Sun, Triple Cross, Adios Sabata, The King And I, The Magnificent Seven, The Westworld, Futureworld, and Flight From Ashia. The viewers once again got a chance to revisit the golden era of Hollywood.

Yul Brynner was known to depict a distinctive golden era working on epics, romance and fantasy. Yul got the Tony Award in 1985, for an incredible “4625 performances” that he went through for a single play, “The King And I”. The same year he died of lung cancer.

Many are in-cognizant to the fact that Yul went to the Universal Studios after meeting with an accident that disrupted his career as a circus acrobat and was turned down for looking “too oriental”. The same legendary appeal and enigma ironically fills up all his work and distinguished his works in favorable light.

The King And I is the most vivid melodrama where Yul’s stern manliness coalesces with Kerr’s dulcimer appeal to bring out the best in a awe-inspiring classic. It is certain that no viewer is impervious to the wonder, vulnerability and innocence of the Siamese King who does not wish to comply to a hired British Governess (Kerr) to make amends in his disciplinary attitude. The movie rightly earned Yul an Academy Award and gave him the status of an international star.

The actor at the end of his fruitful life made explicit his desire on Good Morning America to do a commercial on the anti-smoking agenda. The American Society posthumously released the commercial.
