999New York, July 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) TCM aired the overture version of Stanley Kramer’s classic comedy “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” on July 6. The movie which happens to be one of the finest offerings from the genius director is often considered to be the very best instance of Hollywood film making.

Although the movie isn’t overwhelmingly funny, “It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World” offers the very best juxtaposition of extraordinary cast and serio-comic which makes this movie a gem in its making. The movie dotes over a brilliant yet a simple plot where a “caravan of motorists” witness a real bad accident in the Californian desert highway. Smiler Grogan who dies in the accident discloses the address of a hideout where lies an enormous amount of cash which could change anyone’s fortune.

Ernie Kovaks is inarguably the very best of the cast along with Stan Freberg and Andy Devine. Stan Freberg’s role is overshadowed by mighty performances from Spencer Tracy and Milton Berle. Doodles Weaver (”Man Outside Hardware Store”) is uncredited but leaves a good impact. Jack Benny spends a very short time on the screen and hence fades away from one’s memory as the movie progresses further. The small roles in the movie are the one which act as the chain to the main plot and offers prominence and vitality to the string of events that follows. The coming together of a slightly odd but efficient star cast adds to the mood of true humor which makes this movie a classic one. The TCM version also had the intermission music along with the entry and exit sounds from the original version.
