Taylor Swift Donates $500,000 for Nashville Flood Relief
May 8th, 2010 - 12:42 pm ICT by Sampurn WireMay 8, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Country singer and actress, Taylor Swift has donated $500,000 to the flood relief effort in Nashville, Tennessee. The destruction caused by flood killed 20 people in Tennessee as well as six in Mississippi and four in Kentucky.
Swift moved to Nashville at the age of 14 and considers it to be her home. She said that Nashville is the reason her being doing what she loves. She said that she has always been proud to be a Nashvillian and especially now, seeing the love that runs through this city when there are people in crisis.
Meanwhile, The Country Music Association has said it will donate half of the profits from this summer’s CMA Music Festival, which takes place in Nashville from 10 June to 13 June, to flood relief.
Swift released her debut single “Tim McGraw”, in 2006. In November 2008, she released her second album, Fearless which topped the Billboard 200 in 11 non-consecutive weeks; no album has spent more time at No. 1 since 2000. Swift was named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine in 2009. Fearless won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2010.
In 2008, her albums sold a combined four million copies, making her the best-selling musician of the year in the United States. Forbes ranked her 2009’s 69th-most powerful celebrity with earnings of $18 million.
