Los Angeles, Nov.23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 37th Annual American Music Award, which was held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, turned out to be the musical event of the year as musical artists were recognized along with scintillating performances that were displayed by eminent artists.

The award ceremony was dominated by the 19 year old Taylor Swift, who won awards in five categories after receiving six nominations. The young artist appeared via satellite from London and thanked her fans for their conditional love, which enabled her to win the award. At the same time, giving her a stiff competition was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who also grabbed four awards in different categories that totaled his AMA tally to an overwhelming 25, which is the highest by any single artist. Two of Michael’s award were received by his brother Jermaine Jackson, who remembered Michael in his acceptance speech. Apart from these, The Black Eyed Peas won multiple awards in both the pop/ rock and soul/ R&B categories and at the same time gave an immensely entertaining performance. Other winners included singer Jay-Z who grabbed awards as the favorite male artist and favorite album in the rap/ hip-hop categories, while R&B diva Beyonce Knowles was recognized as the Favorite Female Artist of the year.

Apart from these, other awards were given in various categories with the aim of giving recognition to musical artist for their body of work over the year. In the American Music Awards, the artists are nominated with the help of retail sales and radio ratings and the winners are determined through voting by fans, which takes place online.
