tashaJan 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Los Angeles leg of the ninth season of the “American Idol” was livened up by the appearance of Tasha Layton. By profession a personal assistant, she also serves as a minister, at night. She went on to become one of the first winners of the Golden Ticket among the women, something that was indeed expected, considering that her performance got her accolades from all the judges: Kara Dioguardi, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and also the two guest judges appearing in the Los Angeles leg of the auditions: Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry.

Tasha Layton covered the classic song by Joss Stone, “Baby Baby Baby.” She pulled it off beautifully, her performance rendered even more praiseworthy by the fact that she attempted to sing a cult song, a fact that was likely to make her extra prone to criticism. Thankfully, however, all the judges were unanimous in her praise, making her go up to the next round. Katy Perry commented that she liked a “good, Southern belle,” probably referring to the fact that Tasha Layton has a delightful Southern accent to her voice. Moreover, her voice really has a rather contemporary feel to it.

Tasha Layton obviously earned the favor of the judges, if their reactions are anything to go by. Kara DioGuardi nodded even as Tasha Layton performed, and Simon Cowell commented that if she manages to make it through to the top 12 of the contest, people would probably like to see her singing. That indeed might have been a really good compliment for the contestant, hearing of her chances from one of the judges himself.
