Dec.07 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has become a trend among TV channels and Hollywood production studios to take a children’s fairytale and mould it into a modern day romantic saga. Syfy’s new take on Alice In Wonderland, the immortal creation of Lewis Caroll is a perfect example of this. Syfy and NBC want to remake these classics because they know a section of audience loves these stuff. The good thing about these tales are that the producers do not need to search for an original storyline at all.
Syfy’s take on Alice modifies the classic source to an extent. The director and writer of the new incarnation of Alice gives the viewers an element of surprise by setting the backdrop to a futuristic world. He has also given a smart makeover to Alice. This lady is no next door demure beauty but a smart brunette with skill in martial arts and a fair dose of bravado. She can bash up some baddies when she is put in hostile situations.
In the series, Caterina Scorsone plays the role of Alice and tries to pursue her kidnapped fiance by means of a looking glass. She reaches a fantasy world. The weird place is dominated by an evil minded Queen of hearts. Alice tries to locate her boyfriend with the assistance of young Hatter, played by Andrew-Lee Potts. Together they try to topple the evil queen. The actors have enough prowess in them to keep the viewers hooked to their TV screens through the entire stretch of the air- time. The lead actors are supported by the other actors in various small roles.
