‘Swamp People’ Shows The Struggle In The Swamps

swamp-peopleAug 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Sunday’s episode of History Channel’s reality series ‘Swamp People’, the show focused on the descendants of the French Canadian refugees who settled in the swamps of Louisiana. In the episode, the cameras followed the fiercely independent group of people as they fought for their survival in the harsh conditions of the swamps and also prepared for the alligator hunting season. The 30 day season is one of the most important time of the year for them.

The people known as the Cajuns are shown to be self reliant and culturally vibrant. In spite of the harsh conditions that Swamp dwellers are seen fighting it out to preserve their race and culture. In the latest episode, one of the experienced hunters is seen making weapons for his elder son. He makes special types of hooks that are ideal for the hunting of a particular creature that lives in water. A number of unique and eye-opening customs of the Swamp People are shown in the show that makes it a must watch for the TV audience. The episode showed how the humans have adjusted themselves to the almost inhospitable conditions of the swamps of the Atchafalaya Basin.

The most fascinating part of the show is how the family tries to hold on to the ancient customs in spite of the rapidly modernizing world. The show was aired on August 22 on the History Channel and has received a great response already. The episode also showed the dangers of living in the natural environment as one of the teenaged family members were seen ignoring the danger signs while hunting and coming close to a disaster.
