London, Dec 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ singing sensation Susan Boyle was bullied in school, so she suffers from depression. The Sun reported that the Scottish singer Susan Bolye, whose debut album, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ has proved a huge success has said she suffers from bouts of anger and mood swings. She said, “I can be up and down like a yo-yo. I can be depressed. I know I’m taking a big chance telling people this but you have to be honest. I used to be made a fool of at school. It was psychological bullying and that leaves a scar and it also cultivates a lot of anger.”
She says that since she was a bit different from the others and a bit slow, so others used to pick on her and they made her life an absolute hell, which results in depression even today.
Susan Boyle’s new album I Dreamed A Dream has become the largest ever debut for a female artist in US chart history, selling 700, 763 copies in her first week. The 48-year-old Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan also topped the charts in Australia, UK, Ireland, Canada and New Zealand. Boyle’s album has sold over 3 million copies worldwide since it’s release last week.
Before Brittan’s Got Talent, no one had heard of the 48-year-old Boyle, a self-described Scottish “spinster” who lived alone with her cat. She took everybody in Britain and the online world by storm after a stunning performance on Britain’s Got Talent TV show.

I understand the depression that Susan Boyle feels. I was bullied by my family growing up. My brothers were very cruel and my parents encouraged it. My dad was an alcoholic and my mom thought it was funny. I wasn’t smart enough to leave the environment when I was an adult, so the maltreatment continued into my 20’s and 30’s. I finally found a man that loves me for who I am and left those abusers behind when I was 36. I am now 38 now, and the abuse and depression are slow to leave me, but they are leaving. Stay strong Susan, we love you and believe you can have a strong and beautiful life!!!!!

I wasn’t the family favorite, either, simply because I wasn’t interested in cars, as a career or as a hobby. I was a homely child and not very smart on top of it. I didn’t have a beautiful singing voice like Susan’s, but I could draw just about anything. The problem with that: artists were not appreciated in that family. Being able to draw was considered to be “stupid” and “useless.” Parents and kids at school need to beware of berating their perceived “loser” because you don’t really know what that person will be capable of when given the chance.

I, too, understand Susan Boyle’s depression. I think think the hardest part now at 48 years old is when people say “get over it.” It shows such a shallow lack of insight into what bullying does (lasting scars) and what depression is. I’m with you Susan. I have a terrific husband but the nagging low self esteem is still fresh and painful to deal with.
