Survivor competitor, Moncho Vodnicharov diesJune 1st, 2009 - 9:09 pm ICT by John Le Fevre
A Bulgarian man competing in the reality TV show Survivor Bulgaria has died while filming at the central Philippines resort of Gotta Beach.
Moncho Vodnicharov, 53, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital after he collapsed during filming of the show on Saturday.
Local police chief Ayn Natuel said Vodnicharov collapsed “after performing an activity as part of the contest. He suffered a cardiac arrest and died instantly.”
A Filipino doctor, Geniveive Go, and a Bulgarian physician, Nicolay Niekov, who were present on the set confirmed the cause of death and said it was possible that the victim was not able to endure the still undisclosed challenge.
Contestants of the reality TV show Survivor and its various franchises are usually isolated in a remote location where they compete against each other for $US1 million prize and title of Sole Survivor.
They must fend for food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves while competing in challenges to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off.
In the past, some contestants have been eliminated due to medical reasons.
