New York, Sep 1 (IANS) Indian and international stars will join the global premiere of Indian filmmaker Namrata Singh Gujral’s breast cancer docudrama “1 a Minute,” highlighting the fact that one women dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds.
The Oct 6 global premiere of the UniGlobe Entertainment film in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in 527 theatres in the US, followed by a rolling release across the globem will kick start Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The international roll-out will include a theatrical release in India starting Oct 29 with the Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation as well as an Asia-wide initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer in a joint partnership with the National Commission for Women in India. This will be followed by Europe and Australia.

This is the largest theatrical release for a cancer-themed film. Along with the film’s premiere Oct 6, there will also be a live appeal to US President Barack Obama as well as other global leaders to come together as one world to make the cure for cancer a priority.

Joining will be film stars, internationally celebrated women from various nations and backgrounds who are also survivors like Olivia Newton-John (Grease), Jaclyn Smith (Charlie’s Angels), Melissa Etheridge (An Inconvenient Truth), Lisa Ray (Water / Bollywood Hollywood), Barbara Mori (La Mujer de Mi Hermano /Kites), Mumtaz (Iranian actress / Bollywood), Diahann Carroll (Claudine) and Namrata Singh Gujral (Americanizing Shelley / Kaante).

Also joining will be brothers Billy Baldwin (Backdraft) and Danny Baldwin (Vampires), whose mother is a survivor and Priya Dutt, whose mother, the famous Bollywood star Nargis Dutt, died of cancer.

The documentary is an unprecedented push by global celebrity women, who are also cancer survivors, to help raise funds to find the cures, promote awareness and prevention as well as support survivors of women’s cancers.

Donations from the film will support international Non-Profits & NGOs such as: Susan G. Komen for the Cure and The Nargis Dutt Cancer Foundation.

Narrated by Kelly McGillis (Top Gun), the film follows a woman’s journey through cancer with a focus on breast cancer, the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. At each stage of her journey, stars jump in and recount their experiences at that point in time.
