Sue Mengers dies

Beverly Hills, Oct 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of Hollywood’s most celebrated agents, Sue Mengers, has passed away at the age of 79. Some sources claim that Mengers was at least 3 years older than the age that she mostly gave on her official documents.

Mengers reportedly died at her Beverly Hills home on Saturday after suffering several bouts of stroke. Vanity Fair reports that she died in the presence of some of her friends.

Born to German immigrants, Mengers rose to prominence in the early 1970s when she managed array of stars including Faye Dunaway, Ryan O’Neal, Gene Hackman, Bob Fosse, Cybill Shepherd and Peter Bogdanovich. In the later part of her career, Mengers was the agent of Cher, Joan Collins and Barbra Streisand.

Editor of Vanity Fair Graydon Carter who was among the people present at Mengers’ death-bed said she enjoyed close relationship with the super-agent who was noted for her strong negotiation skills.

Ali MacGraw who also happened to be with Mengers at the last moment told reporters that, “I loved Sue Mengers unequivocally and her passing marks the end of a most glorious era. There will never be another Sue Mengers.”

Mengers retired as an agent in 1988. She turned her house to a place where Hollywood stars could come and visit.
