pattiBarnstable, Feb 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Patti Page, the 82-year-old singer who sang “Old Cape Cod,” back in the year 1957, is given an honor. One of the roads in Centerville was named after her. She reportedly said that she was highly thrilled. When Patti Page recorded the song during 1950s, she did not visit the place. She loved the music and the lyrics of the song which was written by Claire Rothrock Graham. The road which is named after her was unnamed so far. The road heads towards Shootflying Hill Road in Centerville. It leads towards Cape Cod’s vacation center. Patti Page has also visited the place in order to raise fund for the Cape Cod Literacy Council.

Thomas Lynch, the Barnstable assistant town manager said, “We hope when you think of the song, you think of us,” as there is a piece of Cape Cod which is always with Patti Page in that song. The song “Old Cape Cod,” talks about the landscape of the place and it’s people. The song speaks about lobster strew, the experience of being in love, sand dunes and many other things which has made the song an “unofficial anthem” of the place.

Apart from Centerville, there is another place named after Patti Page. In her hometown in Claremore, Oklahoma, there is a place called Patti Page Boulevard. The 82-year-old singer said that she would love to bring her grandchildren in that part of Centerville which is named after her, though it is far away from where she lives. It is indeed a well deserved honor given to the singer who has made all the residents proud through her song, “Old Cape Cod.”
