Steven Tyler’s ‘American Idol’ Reincarnation

Jan 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to a report from The Daily Beast, Steven Tyler has been doing a lot of promoting, but it is unclear whether his intentions are to promote the television show ‘American Idol’, which he will be starring this season as one of the new judges, or is he promoting himself, using the highest rated show on television for nine straight seasons?

Steven Tyler has been the front man of the legendary group, ‘Aerosmith’ for forty years now, so it would seem that the sixty two year old would need no gimmicks in order to gain popularity. There are rumors, however, that the band’s days could be numbered, since their album which is due out later in 2011 is the last one required in it’s contract with Sony Music.

Add that to the fact that the band’s guitarist, Joe Perry, was questioning whether or not Tyler was truly dedicated to the band back in 2009, and it could explain some of Tyler’s recent behavior. When asked by ‘The Daily Beast’ whether or not he felt that American Idol would be able to top it’s former ratings, Tyler replied, “ You know, I didn’t watch the show much before. I didn’t watch it more than once or twice or three times and I didn’t allow myself to get involved with the kids and the build up, you know what I mean? But, yes, people are going to watch it. I watched a trailer for the first 10 minutes last night, and with the talent we found, that will be enough to get you to watch.”

When asked how being a judge on ‘Idol’ was going to factor into his quote that the next thing he would do would be “for the brand of yourself, brand Tyler,” the rock star explained, What I meant by that quote was that there were just some other things I wanted to do, not unlike Joe Perry. I’ve just been [Aerosmith's] dancing bear. I haven’t really taken advantage of doing all that other stuff and I just thought when I was doing this interview last year that I was going to kick it up a notch. You tell me how if this season of “Idol” is better, and if there are 40 million people watching, what that’s going to do for my career? It’s going to take it over the moon.”
