Steven Spielberg to be awarded Philadelphia’s 2009 Liberty Medal

London, Aug 6(ANI): Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg will receive Philadelphia’s 2009 Liberty Medal for his contribution to art and humanitarian achievements, it has been reported.

Spielberg’s is a well-known director and has given Hollywood blockbusters like Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan and The Color Purple.

The BBC reports that the famed filmmaker will give the prize money of 100,000 dollars to his foundation, which produces videos, and oral histories of Holocaust survivors.

Spielberg will be given the award on October 8.

The library medal presented by the National Constitution Center was instituted in1988 to honour those representing the founding values of the US.

The recipients of the award include the likes of Nelson Mandela. (ANI)
