Steve McQueen’s ‘Le Mans’ Porsche up for grabsMay 25th, 2008 - 12:14 pm ICT by admin
Washington, May 25 (ANI): The Porsche Steve McQueen once drove in one of the most exciting endurance races in history is expected to fetch two million dollars when it goes on the block later this summer.
The 908/2 he raced at Sebring, and drove in the classic 1971 movie Le Mans, is a pop cultural and motorsports touchstone with a storied history.
McQueen bought it specifically for the race, and recruited Formula 1 driver Peter Revson as his co-driver.
The car has a 3.0-liter eight-cylinder boxer motor that produces about 350 horsepower, reports Wired News.
It weighs about 1,400 pounds, and has a top speed of about 200 mph.
It will be auctioned by Bonhams & Butterfields.
A 1963 Ferrari Lusso once owned by McQueen, who died of cancer in 1980, sold for 2.31 million dollars last year in an auction that drew 800 people. (ANI)
