steveAug 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It seems at last that Warner Independent Pictures who bought the film rights to Tom Perrotta’s novel “The Abstinence Teacher”, a year before it was even published, is proceeding with the project to get the story on screen. As per the latest reports, the co-directors of the film, Jonathan Dayton of “Little Miss Sunshine” and Valerie Faris have plans to cast Sandra Bullock and Steve Carell as the lead pair in the film. The news was revealed by a reputed media source that also added that the film adaptation of “The Abstinence Teacher” will be a comedy. However, as of yet none of the stars concerned or the co-directors have confirmed the news.

Tom Parrotta’s 2007 novel, “The Abstinence Teacher” tells the story of Ruth Ramsey a divorced sexual education teacher from New Jersey who faces opposition from the conservative population of the society for her views. However, the lady gets attracted to her daughter’s soccer coach reportedly. There is no doubt about the fact that the story under such a circumstance will be a comedy that a veteran comedian like Steve Carell can pull of well.

Steve Carell has worked with Jonathan Dayton earlier as well on “Little Miss Sunshine”, and therefore his being cast in “The Abstinence Teacher” does not come as a surprise. As for Sandra Bullock, many analysts and critics have voiced that the fabulous actress possess a great sense of comic timing. If a person who can do justice to a role that demands touch of drama along with awkward comedy, then nobody else can perhaps pull it off well than Sandra Bullock.
