July 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After six years of his tenure as the programming chief of ABC networks, Stephen McPherson has resigned from the post of the President of ABC Entertainment Group this week. On Tuesday the Disney-ABC Television Group issued a brief statement mentioning the resignation of Stephen McPherson. The statement mentioned that the company had accepted the resignation of Stephen McPherson and that the name of the successor will be declared soon.
Although Stephen McPherson was quoted as thanking the people with whom he had worked in ABC, many insiders have voiced that the now former president of ABC Entertainment Group was not in cordial terms with many top officials of the company. An insider has reportedly said that the executive was not in good terms with Anne Sweeney, the Disney/ABC TV Group president. Although the resignation from Stephen McPherson has come all of a sudden and had surprised many outsiders, few will disagree to the fact that the former President’s departure was being rumored for some time now. Some rival executives have voiced that it is the failure to perform well that has led to Stephen McPherson’s resignation. An executive had mentioned that the ABC spends money like “drunken sailors” but the results in comparison to it are not at all satisfactory. The ABC network held the third position among the big four networks.
Although the company is yet to decide the successor of Stephen McPherson, the name of Paul Lee, president of ABC Family has emerged as a prospective new President of ABC Entertainment Group. Paul Lee’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and “Pretty Little Liars” has in the recent past helped to boost the rating of the channel.
