Stephen Gately’s mum vows to stand by his gay partner Andrew Cowles
October 19th, 2009 - 2:43 pm ICT by ANILondon, October 19 (ANI): Late Boyzone star Stephen Gately’s mother has said that the family will support her son’s gay partner Andrew Cowles and won’t fight over the singer’s 10 million pound will.
“He’s one of the family - Stephen loved him with all his heart and he made my son happy,” the Daily Star quoted Stephen’s mother Margaret as saying.
She added: “I asked Stephen when they got together if it was love and he said it was more than anything he’d ever found. He was besotted.”
The pop star’s mother continued that she had no qualms when her son declared he was gay in 1999.
She said: “It wasn’t a big deal. I knew he was gay. People need to move with the times.”
Stephen and Andrew had married in 2006, which gave the singer’s partner legal rights to his London home and Majorca apartment.
Stephen died on June 10 at his Majorca apartment, while on a holiday. (ANI)
