Stephen Gately’s family involved in a row over his ashes

Dublin, Oct 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The family of the late star, Stephen Gately and his husband, Andrew Cowles are reportedly in disagreement over where to scatter his ashes.
The family has planned to scatter Gately’s ashes in Ireland today, but Andrew will be absent from the ceremony because he reportedly wanted Gately’s ashes to have been spread in London where the pair lived.
A family source was quoted as saying “This falling out is the last thing Steo would have wanted. As things stand, Andy isn’t attending the scattering of the ashes. It’s a great shame, but just one of those things.”
The source further told the reporter that “Steo’s mum and dad feel in their hearts they are doing the right thing by scattering his ashes in Dalkey [Ireland]. But Andy won’t be making the trip over.” The source further said that the issue has created so much tension and ill feelings between the two parties.
The source said the family has invited Andrew to the ceremony but they know he will not attend the ceremony because of the issue.
Spokesman for the family confirmed this by saying “Andrew has received at least half-a-dozen invitations to the ceremony. He hasn’t responded to any of them (invitations)”.
It may be recalled that the star died about a year ago during a holiday in Majorca, Spain.
