colbert Sep 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Stephen Colbert, the renowned Goofball TV comic, brought his stand-up comedy act to the Congress on Friday, when the latter was testifying before a House Judiciary subcommittee on reforms of immigration laws. Stephen Colbert addressed the Immigration Sub-Committee, in the House, as his satirical news character, saying that it was really hard for him to pick up beans and pack corns with illegal immigrants. He also added that, he does not want a tomato to be picked by a Mexican, sliced by a Guatemalan and served by a Venezuelan. He wanted them all to be done by an American.

Inviting a person, who is least aware about such an important political issue, and then making such superficial comments in front of the highest legislative authority, was condemned by most sensible Americans. Boston University professor Tobe Berkovitz said that it was the most pathetic commentary that the congress could witness as a result of appointing an unaware person to speak about an important issue of public interest. He also mentioned that he fails to understand how the Congress could invite and accept the dramatization of such an important issue.

According to many people, this act was the result of excessive celebrity obsession by the Americans, who can accept frivolous entertainment even within the walls of the Congress, with no one to oppose it. People are yet to figure out, why did Stephen Colbert make such a foolish comment in front of the Congress. Many have voiced that if an expert opinion was needed on the matter, then there were many other sensible people to address this issue than Steven Colbert.
