steMay 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The latest episode of the hit television series ‘48 Hours Mystery’, which airs on CBS, dealt with the story of Stephanie Lazarus. The case of Stephanie Lazarus was recently reopened after she was finally accused by the cops, after years of hankering by Nels Rasmussen, the father of the murdered Sherri Rae Rasmussen. Sherri Rae Rasmussen had been murdered back in the year 1986, and ever since, her father had been asking the police to take into consideration as a possible suspect Stephanie Lazarus, who was a former girlfriend of the husband of the murdered youth. However, the possibility had not been taken too seriously, not least because Stephanie Lazarus had been a cop herself.

It was only after 23 years of the murder that the cops actually took notice of what Nels Rasmussen had been saying all along. The case no doubt left the police department in shock, as, admittedly, this was not something that they came across everyday, a Los Angeles police officer herself being accused of a brutal murder. Nels Rasmussen kept insisting that his daughter had complained to the family as well as friends that Stephanie Lazarus had been stalking her. However, the police department did not take any notice of his insistence, and he was forbidden to bring up the topic again.

Needless to say, the family, although happy that the police have finally been able to nail the real culprit, cannot hide their resentment at the amount of time it took, condemning the investigations conducted in 1986 as being irresponsible and ’sloppy.’ However, the department defended itself by saying that they had felt it was definitely a case of a botched robbery, something that had been occurring too often at that point.
