step-upxAug 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It goes without saying that no one expects an intricate plot or witty dialogues in a movie that is based on dance, such a movie should have the movements and steps right. From that perspective ‘Step Up 3D’ does its bit well. However, it suffers owing to its wafer thin storyline. The viewers who saw the earlier two movies in the series will like it though and the avid viewers of the show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ are also likely to lap it up. The actors are talented as far as the dancing is concerned but the same cannot be said about their acting skills.

The concept of using 3D technology to record fast dance moves is really superb. However the moves tend to become repetitive after a point of time. The earlier two movies got success as far as the box office is concerned. The third movie may also repeat the trend and its USO of course is another dimension thrown in. Its director is Jon M. Chu. He is of the opinion that the 3rd dimension adds to the appeal of the film and it makes the viewers more engrossed into it. This is not a mainstream movie targeted at a niche audience.

The storyline is not strong and dance itself is the theme of the film. This dancing fairytale set against the backdrop of New York City is refreshing in a way but it may disappoint serious movie viewers. The rain soaked dance sequence is superb and it may remind one of Thriller by Michael Jackson. There is a romance angle between Natalie and Luke but that is not of primary importance.
